He currently serves as the Director of Operational Risk Oversight at Nationwide Building Society (including Virgin Money), where he leads the second-line risk team providing independent oversight and challenge across the organisation, with a strong focus on technology and operational resilience. Richard has 20 years of experience in risk management, including a tenure as Head of Operational Risk Oversight at TSB Bank. In that role, he navigated complex risk challenges and gained first hand experience managing operational crises—most notably working on the front lines of TSB’s major IT migration incident in 2018. Throughout his career, Richard has built a reputation for strengthening risk culture and governance, and he regularly advises senior executives and boards on non-financial risk matters.
